Regulator shutting down illegal GPS companies’ servers, millions of GPS users in Trouble
Industry experts suggest VTS customers to avail service from legal entities
[Dhaka, 27 January 2025] The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has recently started drives against companies providing illegal GPS tracking services, putting millions of users in limbo.
BTRC is shutting down the servers of vehicle tracking service (VTS) companies that are operating without license or have no approval from the regulator to offer GPS services. Of late, BTRC has taken action against three companies -- Motolock, Tasslock and Sinotrack – for running its business without any approval or license and closed down its servers. These illegal companies were earlier warned when RAB arrested three people in the capital last year for illegal possession of GPS trackers, Tasslock GPS trackers, Motolock remotes and frequency devices.
In the recent drive, at least 36 URLs, IP addresses and servers have been blocked by BTRC, and all IIGs, ISPs and telecom operators have been instructed to follow the guideline. BTRC is also trying to unearth how these companies purchased bulk sim cards without approval.
Now that the servers of illegal companies are being shut down, thousands of GPS users availing service from those illegal companies are suffering. Customers who are using Tasslock, Motolock, Sinotrack and other illegal operators are facing troubles. In the face of heavy criticism on social media, owners of these illegal companies have reportedly tired to flee Bangladesh to avoid legal charges.
Moreover, in a bid to control usage of illegal GPS service in the country, the regulator has recently cancelled license of 4 vehicle tracking service (VTS) companies .
Industry insiders as well as the regulator have suggested the users to get similar services from authorized or legal VTS companies as BTRC will now arrange regular frequent raids against illegal service providers and also keep blocking servers of illegal operators.
Spokespersons of the Vehicle Tracking Service Provider Associations of Bangladesh (VTSPAB) have opined that the recent drives will encourage the companies who are abiding by the laws and also inspire people to opt for legal vehicle tracking services.
Applauding BTRC’s drive against illegal VTS companies, Mir Shahrukh Islam, Managing Director, Bondstein Technologies Limited, said, “This particular decision of BTRC is timely and will have a positive impact on the VTS sector of Bangladesh. It will encourage the legitimate VTS traders, which will play a far-reaching role in the country’s tech ecosystem. This initiative will also play an important role in boosting revenue collection for the government, which will further enrich our economy.”

[ঢাকা, 27 জানুয়ারী ২০২৫] বাংলাদেশ টেলিযোগাযোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ কমিশন (বিটিআরসি) সম্প্রতি অবৈধ জিপিএস ট্র্যাকিং পরিষেবা প্রদানকারী প্রতিষ্ঠানের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযান শুরু করেছে; ফলে বিপাকে পড়েছেন লক্ষ লক্ষ জিপিএস ব্যবহারকারী।
লাইসেন্স নেই এমন যানবাহন ট্র্যাকিং পরিষেবা (ভিটিএস) কোম্পানির সার্ভার বন্ধ করে দিচ্ছে বিটিআরসি। সম্প্রতি, বিটিআরসি কোনও অনুমোদন বা লাইসেন্স ছাড়াই ব্যবসা পরিচালনা করার অভিযোগে মটোলক, ট্যাসলক ও সিনোট্র্যাক – এই তিনটি কোম্পানির বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা নিয়েছে এবং এসব প্রতিষ্ঠানের সার্ভার বন্ধ করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। গত বছর রাজধানীতে মটোলক জিপিএস ট্র্যাকার, ট্যাসলক জিপিএস ট্র্যাকার, রিমোট এবং ফ্রিকোয়েন্সি ডিভাইস অবৈধভাবে বিক্রি করার অপরাধে র্যাব তিনজনকে গ্রেপ্তার করে। সেসময় এই অবৈধ ভিটিএস কোম্পানিগুলোকে সতর্ক করা হয়েছিল।
সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে পরিচালিত বিভিন্ন অভিযানে বিটিআরসি কমপক্ষে ৩৬টি লিংক, আইপি অ্যাড্রেস ও সার্ভার ব্লক করেছে। এছাড়া, সকল আইআইজি, আইএসপি এবং টেলিকম অপারেটরদের এ সংক্রান্ত নির্দেশনা অনুসরণ করার নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে। কীভাবে অনুমোদন ছাড়াই বিপুল পরিমাণ সিম কার্ড ক্রয় করা হয়, এ বিষয়টি খতিয়ে দেখছে বিটিআরসি।
অবৈধ কোম্পানিগুলোর সার্ভার বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়ার কারণে এসব প্রতিষ্ঠানের পরিষেবা গ্রহণকারী হাজার হাজার জিপিএস ব্যবহারকারীরা অপ্রীতিকর পরিস্থিতির সম্মুখীন হয়েছেন। বিভিন্ন সমস্যার মুখোমুখি হচ্ছেন ট্যাসলক, মোটোলক, সিনোট্র্যাক এবং অন্যান্য অবৈধ অপারেটরদের সেবা গ্রহণকারী গ্রাহকরা। এছাড়া, দেশে অবৈধ জিপিএস পরিষেবার ব্যবহার নিয়ন্ত্রণের লক্ষ্যে, নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থা সম্প্রতি ৪টি ভেহিক্যাল ট্র্যাকিং পরিষেবা (ভিটিএস) কোম্পানির লাইসেন্স বাতিল করেছে।
এই খাতের সাথে সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তিরা এবং নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থা ব্যবহারকারীদের অনুমোদিত বা বৈধ ভিটিএস কোম্পানিগুলো থেকে অনুরূপ পরিষেবা গ্রহণের পরামর্শ দিয়েছেন। এর অন্নতম কারণ হলো, অবৈধ পরিষেবা প্রদানকারীদের বিরুদ্ধে বিটিআরসি’র অভিযান অব্যাহত থাকবে; ফলে যেকোনো সময় সেসব অবৈধ অপারেটরদের সার্ভার ব্লক হয়ে যেতে পারে।
ভেহিকেল ট্র্যাকিং সার্ভিস প্রোভাইডার অ্যাসোসিয়েশনস অব বাংলাদেশ (ভিটিএসপিএবি) এর মুখপাত্ররা এই উদ্যোগকে স্বাগত জানিয়েছেন। তারা মনে করেন যে, সাম্প্রতিক এই অভিযান বৈধ কোম্পানিগুলোকে উৎসাহিত করবে এবং গ্রাহকদের অনুমোদিত যানবাহন ট্র্যাকিং পরিষেবা গ্রহণ করতে অনুপ্রাণিত করবে।
অবৈধ ভিটিএস কোম্পানিগুলোর বিরুদ্ধে বিটিআরসি’র অভিযানের প্রশংসা করে বন্ডস্টাইন টেকনোলজিস লিমিটেডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক মীর শাহরুখ ইসলাম বলেন, “আমি মনে করি, বিটিআরসি’র এই সিদ্ধান্ত সময়োপযোগী এবং বাংলাদেশের প্রযুক্তি খাতে ইতিবাচক প্রভাব ফেলবে। এটি লাইসেন্সধারি বৈধ ভিটিএস ব্যবসায়ীদের উদ্ভুদ্ধ করবে, যা দেশের প্রযুক্তি ইকোসিস্টেমে সুদূরপ্রসারী ভূমিকা রাখবে। এই উদ্যোগ বাংলাদেশের সরকারের রাজস্ব আহরণে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে, যা অর্থনীতিকে আরও সমৃদ্ধ করবে।”
