Advisory and Notice on Complying with Local Laws for Vehicle Tracking Device and Platform Services in Bangladesh
Dear Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the Vehicle Tracking Service Provider Association of Bangladesh (VTSPAB), we are writing to alert you that your organization has been supplying vehicle tracking devices and platform services to various entities in Bangladesh without adhering to local regulations. As you may be aware, operating or facilitating vehicle tracking services in Bangladesh necessitates an appropriate license from the authorized regulatory body; failure to do so contravenes national laws and regulations.
Local Law Compliance
Providing any device or software solution to individuals or companies that do not hold the requisite approval from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) not only undermines fair competition but also fosters an illegal vehicle-tracking market. Under existing legislation, engaging in or enabling such unauthorized activities is a punishable offence.
Regulatory Measures Already Underway
With the intention of enforcing the law and restricting unauthorized providers, regulatory authorities have already taken steps to block the IPs and DNS of several non-compliant foreign companies. This process is ongoing and may extend to your organization if it continues to bypass legal requirements. Additionally, any non-compliant or improperly imported IMEI series are subject to blocking by BTRC, which could further disrupt your product’s functionality and market presence.
Key Recommendations for Compliance and Collaboration
- Adherence to Licensing Requirements: Before offering or distributing any tracking devices or platform services, please ensure that potential buyers/customers possess valid BTRC licenses or similar authorizations.
- Verification of License Status: In instances of new device sales or platform deployments, verifying the client’s license or consulting with VTSPAB can help you confirm compliance and avoid legal complications.
- Commitment to Ethical Practice: We urge you to discontinue any dealings that might encourage or facilitate illegal vehicle-tracking operations. Working exclusively with licensed partners will help maintain a fair market environment and safeguard your business from adverse consequences.
- A Call for Cooperation: VTSPAB firmly believes that Bangladesh’s vehicle tracking industry holds significant potential for growth. By collaborating and complying with local laws, manufacturers and service providers alike can capitalize on an expanding market while ensuring user trust, safety, and transparency. However, organizations that choose not to comply with applicable regulations may face stricter legal actions by the relevant authorities, potentially disrupting their operations and market presence.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in upholding the laws and standards that govern our sector. For any further information or to discuss mutual opportunities, please feel free to reach out to VTSPAB.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
S M Mejba Ul Haque
